MOTIVATION

I was having a chat with someone yesterday about motivation and how to stick to keep going to the gym when you don’t feel like it.

There are a couple ways to deal with this depending on your situation.

If going to the gym is a massive part of your life then the fact that you have something programmed should be motivation enough for you to get there. The reality is that you’re very rarely going to feel extremely motivated to train but that doesn’t change the fact that there is work to do.

99% of people DO NOT fall into this category. If you’re not a professional athlete and you think that this is you you probably need to re-evaluate what’s important to you.

Most people merely go to the gym as a way to keep active and if you’re in this group and you’ve lost a bit of motivation there are a couple things you can do to get back that spark:

1) Get a trainer.
Having a professional join you in the gym for your sessions will help keep you coming and they’ll have the expertise to make your sessions more fun. Granted, this will completely depend on who the trainer is and how you work together.

2) Get a training partner.
Similar to number 1; getting your mate do join you will help make sessions fun and get you motivated to keep going.

3) Get out of the gym.
Most of the time I think this is the most effective. If you’re not feeling motivated to go to the gym anymore then go and do something else. This isn’t an excuse to become inactive but rather an opportunity to do something else. Go for walks with your spouse, take up a new sport or kick a ball around with your kid. The gym isn’t the only place where activity counts.
